Scripture
The name Jesus
means “God saves.” The name emphasizes that Jesus is the one who has come to
save all. Christ means “anointed.” The name shows that God the Father
has given Jesus a mission and endowed him with power to save and the power to
heal. Jesus' whole life was aimed at saving people. His words and actions are
the foundation of the saving grace we now received in the sacraments.
Through the Word of God, in Scriptures, we can see the healing power of Jesus.

MARK 7:32-37 Jesus heals a deaf person
32 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged Jesus to place his hand on him.
33 After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue. 34 He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). 35 At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.
36 Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. 37 People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

JAMES 5:13-15 A call to anoint the sick
13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
